Pink Diamond

Diamonds are women's best friend because they last forever. That's the most commonly heard phrase we hear about diamonds. Although most diamonds are colorless, some diamonds have the color of the vibrant hues of a rainbow. The value of the diamond is determined by the color of the stone. The rarer or fancier the color is, the more expensive it will be. Natural fancy colored diamonds are very expensive because fancy colored diamonds are very rare. One of the rarest types diamonds are the pink diamonds. They are so rare that most jewelers have never seen a pink diamond before.

Fancy colored diamonds ranges from green to blue to yellow to orange. But the most sought after fancy colored diamonds are the pink diamonds. Most jewelry retailers agree that pink diamonds are very much in demand in the market. Pink diamond can cost as much as a million pounds because of popular demand. Any deeply colored pink diamond can cost more than that because deeply colored pink diamond are said to be extremely rare. Although most pink diamonds are slightly pink. Most of the coloration of pink diamonds is slight rather than distinct.

The largest pink diamond in the world is the Darya-i-Nur. The Darya-i-Nur is rectangular in shape and has a light pink color. Darya-i-Nur means "Sea of Light, River of Light or Ocean Light". The Darya-i-Nur is the most celebrated diamond in the Iranian Crown Jewel and is considered as one of the oldest diamond jewelry. The Darya-i-Nur is said to have been first possessed by the first Mogul emperor of India, today, is placed among the Iranian Crown Jewels. Its exact weight is not known because the stone can not be removed without creating major risk to the Iranian Crown Jewel.

Another famous pink diamond is the "Star of the South". Discovered in 1853 on a Brazilian diamond mine, the Star of the South was purchased and named by Halphen & Associates of Paris. The Star of the South was first displayed during a London Exhibition on 1862, and was later displayed in Paris on 1867. The fancy light pink with a faint brown hue diamond stone of the Star of the South measures 128.48 carat and is also called as Estrela do Sul Diamond and Star of Minas Diamond.

The Nur-Ul-Ain is also one of the famous pink diamond jewelry in the world. The stone of the Nur-Ul-Ain that is set on the center of the tiara is a 60 carat pink diamond. The tiara itself contains 324 diamonds. The Nur-Ul-Ain was designed for the wedding of the last Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi to Empress Farah on 1958.
It is considered to be the best wedding gift a man has given to a woman because it is the ultimate symbol of love, elegance and femininity.
