Radiant Cut Diamond: Modern, Contemporary And Versatile

A change has taken place in the way that diamonds are being cut and the reason for such a change is that modern designs are not quite the same as was the case many years ago. The radiant cut diamond is an excellent example of this change in diamond cuts and it in fact is a diamond cut that only as recently as the year 1977 came to be developed and then patented.

Originally, the radiant cut diamonds were available in relatively smaller sizes with ranges falling between 0.70 and five carats and the quality generally fell in the ranges D to I.

The early radiant cut diamonds also came with a certificate of originality that authenticated the brand as well as provided complete information detailing the manner in which the diamonds were cut. Diamonds in their original form will of course hardly inspire any interest as they are rather unattractive and they generally look no better than a dirty ice piece. In fact, even a diamond that has been poorly cut too will not be considered attractive and will therefore be quite worthless.

The radiant cut diamond helps in creating more a versatile shape and it also lends it well to different settings. Though the radiant cut diamond is basically a hybrid cut that incorporates the best of the Emerald cut and the Princess cut it is nevertheless quite appealing and is therefore much in demand for people that need added brilliance from their diamonds.

The radiant cut diamond is one that comprises seventy facets out of which about twenty-five are incorporated in the crown while about thirty seven are incorporated on the pavilion and just eight are left for the girdle. Once properly cut, the radiant cut diamond will emit the same kind of brilliance as is found in the Emerald cut diamond, though the former type of cut is referred to as a pioneer cut of fancy diamond cuts while the latter is not a fancy diamond cut.

The diamond has a hardness that no other gemstone on the planet can match or better. An example of the worth of this gemstone can be seen when in the year 1477 the Archduke Maximillian gifted his betrothed with an engagement ring that had this gemstone on it and its message was clear: to signify eternal love. This in fact is the first example of an engagement ring being gifted.
